Bao'An is a district of Shenzhen City. Originally, Shenzhen City was named Bao'An County during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331 AD). Shenzhen was named "Dongguan" in the Tang Dynasty, and then Xin'An County during the Ming Dynasty (1573 AD). It reverted back to Bao'An in 1914, and was finally called Shenzhen City in 1979.

Shenzhen City has a population of 7.01 million, most of whom are migrants from other areas of China. It sits on the eastern bank of the Pearl River, bordering Hong Kong on the south and Dongguan and Huizhou on the north.

The average temperature in January is 14.1 C and 28.2 C in July.
