Dongguan City is located just south of Guangzhou, Guangdong, and on the east bank of the Pearl River. It has a population of more than 6 million people and an area of 907 square miles, which is comprised of both flat and mountainous areas. With a moderate subtropic ocean climate, average temperature is 72 degrees F and annual rainfall is about 71 inches.

Dongguan is a city with a long history and culture. Its name derives from being east ("Dong") of Guangzhou and being rich in a kind of grass called "Guan" grass. The famous "Humen Opium Burning" on the eve of Opium War took place in Humen, Dongguan, which makes it the beginning of the modern history of China. Dongguan is also famous for its particular culture of dragon boat, dragon lion and folk arts.
