orphanage Description:
Until February 2003, the children were housed in a three-story building
at the back of the orphanage compound, behind the Old Folk's building.
All children were cared for on either the second or third floor
of that building. Each floor had six baby rooms (small rooms the
size of a child's bedroom), along with a center play area and food
preparation area.
In February 2003, part of the girls were moved to the front building.
These are located on the second floor right (the administration
offices are second floor left) and third floor. The rooms were clean,
with stainless steel cribs, and very little bedding, since they
were very warm from the summer.
Misc. Information:
Yangchun City is 260 kilometers from Guangzhou in south west Guangdong
Province, bordering Yangjiang City on the north. There are 994,000
people in the county, which includes eighteen towns. The County
Government and orphanage are located in downtown.
Prominent crops in the area include rice, sugar cane, and tea oil.
Peacock rock is a dark green rock made into jewelry. This rock is
found only in this area.
Average temperature is 21.6 degrees Celsius (January 14 degrees,
July 28 degrees). Wood products are also very important to Yangchun,
given its mountainous landscape.
Tourist destinations include the many caves and hot springs in
the area (Lingxiao Caves, Longgong Cave, Stone Forest Park). Bajia
Waterfalls are another beautiful location.
Director:
Director Yu Hong Ying has been the director of the orphanage since
1995, but began working in the orphanage in 1984 when the building
was completed (before 1984 the babies were cared for by patrons
of the Old Folk's Home). She is around 44 years old, and has a 19
year-old son (2008) (photo taken in 2003).

Finding ads are published by the orphanage as the first step for
international adoption. The photos used in the ads pre-date a child's
referral photo by several months. Additionally, information contained
in the ads is very valuable to adoptive families, especially those
who have not traveled yet.
