orphanage Description:
The Yangdong adoption program began in 1997, and since then over 500 children have been adopted outside China. Foreign adoption represents 95% of the Yangdong orphanages adoptions. Right now there are about 150 children in the facility, living in 6 babyrooms on the third, fourth and fifth levels. The current facility was constructed in July 2000, before which the orphanage shared the building with the Yangdong Civil Affairs office.

Misc. Information:
Yangdong County is 241 kilometers from Guangzhou in southwest Guangdong Province, bordering Yangjiang City on the north. There are 490,000 people in the county, which includes fifteen towns. The County Government and orphanage are located in Dongcheng Town.

Prominent crops in the area include rice, peanuts, sugar cane, and other fruits and vegetables. Bamboo and wood are also important products. Fishing is also important. Average temperature is 22.5 degrees Celsius (January 14 degrees, July 28 degrees).

Tourist destinations include Bihai Silver Sand Beach and Xinzhou Hot Springs. The Ruoqin Mountain area includes waterfalls and other beautiful features. Cultural sights include Shi Jue temple.

Director:
The director of the orphanage is Mr. Jiang. He became the director in 2003, and prior to becoming director he worked for 20 years as a surgeon at the nearby People's Hospital of Yangdong.
